This blog is a joint project between Wendy Peters and David Olinger.
Wendy Peters graduated from the University of Alberta in 2005 with a Bachelor of Commerce in International Business. She has been maintaining, designing and developing websites for over 4 years and completed the Web Design Certificate through the University of Calgary’s Continuing Education in 2008. Wendy has created over a dozen small business sites, including websites for a Calgary-based HVAC company, an Alberta-based industrial medical services company, and a Red Deer preschool; and she designs, consults and maintains multiple corporate sites (internal and external). Wendy is also a passionate member of the social media community in Calgary. She has been blogging since November, 2008 and can often be found discussing improvements to social networks or writing about her newest ideas regarding the internet and social media. Wendy has been playing ultimate frisbee in Calgary since 2006.
Wendy has been pursuing her interests in web design, internet marketing and online communications since 2005. She works full time as a communications professional and is founder of SW Concepts, a local web design company.
Wendy has always maintained an interest in participating in the community she lives in. Currently, she is an active frisbee player with the Calgary Ultimate Association and an avid participant of some design, social media and marketing interest and user groups in Calgary.
David Olinger’s wide-ranging experience in the communications field has included award-winning reporting with weekly and daily newspapers, industry recognized work in corporate writing, editing and photography, and his current position as Manager of Marketing and Communications with the City of Grande Prairie. His background also includes operating a communications consultancy.
David has significant involvement and interest in the City’s website and is participating in a user experience exercise. This project will lead to redevelopment of the website by providing information on how stakeholders use the website and their expectations of what it should include.
David is relatively new to social media and this is his first blog. He recognizes the importance of using all forms of communication to ensure reach to all segments of the community.
His career path has included stops in St. Paul and Grande Prairie – twice – and Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
David invests significant time helping the communities in which he lives. This has ranged from Chamber of Commerce committee work to chair of a parent council to service as a Big Brother and volunteerism in the theatre community and with the United Way.
